EPR REGISTRATION FOR PLASTIC WASTE

EXTENDED PRODUCER RESPONSIBILITY COMPLIANCE UNDER PLASTIC WASTE MANAGEMENT RULES, 2016

What is EPR for Plastic?

Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for plastic waste is a mandatory compliance obligation under the Plastic Waste Management (Amendment) Rules, 2022. It requires producers, importers, and brand owners (PIBOs) to collect, recycle, and responsibly manage plastic packaging waste generated by their products.

CPCB (Central Pollution Control Board) oversees EPR registration through the centralized online portal. Non-compliance can attract heavy penalties, suspension of business licenses, and legal action under the Environment Protection Act.

Mandatory Compliance

EPR registration is compulsory for all PIBOs dealing in plastic packaging across India since 2022.
